Kolossus Genesis
About the Album
Kolossus Genesis is an epic hybrid orchestral work that fuses large orchestra and choirs with electronic soundscapes, synthesizers, and elements of dubstep and trap. The sound design is conceived on a monumental scale, built on mass and momentum in the idiom of modern trailer dramaturgy.
The work deals with the human retreat into the inner self, driven by societal pressure, self-doubt, and the alienation and loneliness that grow from them. The inner world appears full of magic and adventure and becomes a reality of its own. The boundlessness of imagination turns into a temptation and, at the same time, into the cornerstone of escapism.
None of this is ever told directly. The theme is cast into the work as metaphor. Melody, composition, sonic form, and the titles of the pieces shape it into the story of a journey inward. There, a world of rivers and mountains opens up. The monumentality of the sound is the means and the subject of this narrative.
Yet the allure of this world remains ambivalent. Beneath the work's surface lies a struggle with the world, but above all with oneself.
As a debut, Kolossus Genesis unmistakably bears the signature of a first work. It is youthful and ambitious, and its compositional structure is not yet as refined as that of the later works.
Kolossus Genesis is conceived as the first part of the Kolossus project, planned as a trilogy comprising "Kolossus Genesis", "Kolossus Exodus", and "Kolossus Revelation", and laid out deliberately as a work spanning decades rather than years. The parts follow no release schedule.
Production of Kolossus Genesis ran from late 2015 to early 2017. The remastered edition followed in 2019.
